About The Marina Torch
The Marina Torch is an 86-story supertall residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina, completed in 2011 and known for briefly holding the world record as the tallest residential building.
History and Construction
Launched in 2005 by Select Group, The Marina Torch was designed by Khatib & Alami and the National Engineering Bureau, with Dubai Civil Engineering serving as the main contractor. Construction began in October 2005 and was completed in May 2011. It briefly surpassed the Q1 Tower in Australia to claim the record as the world's tallest residential tower.
Fire Safety and Renovation
The tower suffered two major exterior facade fires in 2015 and 2017, and a minor gym fire in 2019. Following these incidents, the building's exterior aluminum composite cladding was completely replaced with fire-resistant materials to comply with the updated safety standards mandated by the UAE government.
